Michael Phelps chasing Mark Spitz's olympics mark of 7 gold medals
Michael Phelps could swim in up to eight events at the olympics as he chases Mark Spitz's record seven gold medals. Phelps will be favored in the 200 and 400-meter medleys and the 200 butterfly events.
The 200 freestyle will be the toughest at the olympics. Ian Thorpe of Australia holds the four fastest times in history. The Aussies' strength in the 200 at the olympics will definitely be a challenge.
Michael Phelps' other major obstacle comes in the 100 butterfly at the olympics. He will face Ian Crocker, who beat him at the U.S. olympics trials and he will probably have to beat him earn a spot in the medley finals.
